How to Use Stormboard's Dashboard

Everything you need to know to navigate your Dashboard

Before you dive into the details, here is a look at some of the Dashboard features in action!

The Dashboard Interface

The Dashboard is the first screen that you will encounter when you sign into your Stormboard account. 

It gives you access to all of your Storms, your different team accounts, your account and profile settings, Storms that you have been invited to, the new Folders feature (for Business and Enterprise users only), your tasks, and the activity in your various Storms.

Directory Menu

To open the Directory Menu, click the three lines to the left of the Stormboard logo (see the image below). 

A side panel will open where you will be able to access your account settings, logout, and more. You will also find links to each one of our main website pages. 

To dismiss this menu, click anywhere on your dashboard or click the three lines again.

Team Accounts

Teams that you are a member of will appear as square icons in the far left-hand side of the Dashboard (see image below). 

Switch between different teams or workspaces by clicking the square icons. 

The very top icon, with the Stormboard logo, is where your Personal Storms are located.

If this is your first time logging into Stormboard, or if you are not yet part of a team, you will only see the Personal Storms icon and a  '+' icon (see image below). 

Clicking the '+' icon will direct you to the pricing page of the website where you can setup a team on your account.

All Storms

If you choose the "All Storms" view, you will be able to Create a Storm, Join a Storm, Search through existing Storms, sort and organize Storms using different filter options, view Closed Storms, view and manage your tasks, and see all Storm activity.

Create a Storm

The Create a Storm button is no longer located above the Join a Storm button. Instead, it always occupies the first tile in the All Storms view. Click anywhere in this box to Create a Storm.

My Invites

When someone invites you to a Storm that you are not already a participant in, the invite will appear in the My Invites tab (see image below).

This view looks similar to the All Storms view except you will only see your pending invites here, and must Accept the invite in order to enter the Storm (you also have the option to Decline the invite). 

Once you Accept the Storm invite, the Storm will appear in All Storms.

Pro Tip: Hover your mouse over a Storm thumbnail to see the 'Accept' and 'Decline' options.
⚠️ If you are on a touch device, tap the Storm menu (three dots next to the Storm name) to access these options.

Account Settings

You can access your Account Settings by clicking the ⚙️gear icon to the right of your current team (see image below). 

Here you have access to your profile settings, connected apps, billing history, and your team settings.

Profile Settings

Click your avatar in the top right-hand corner to access your Profile Settings

Here you also have quick access to your Dashboard, can Create a Storm, access Account Settings, can change your Profile Picture, and can Logout.

Search

To find a Storm in All Storms, click the Search bar located at the top of the page (see below). 

Begin typing a Storm name and this will filter that Storm to the top of the page. Stormboard dashboard search bar


⚠️ Only Storms that you are a member of, and exist within your current Team or workspace, will appear. If you enter the Storm name incorrectly or if the name does not exist, an error message will pop up (see below).

Search within a Folder (Business and Enterprise users only)

Similar to searching within All Storms, Business and Enterprise users who are inside a Folder can search for a Storm within that Folder by entering a Storm name into the search bar. 

⚠️ Results will only display Storms that are found within that Folder.

Sorting

While in All Storms, you have two different options to sort and organize your Storms.

1. You can Sort by:

  • Alphabetical

  • Frequently used

  • Recent activity

  • Starred

⚠️ To Star an important Storm, click the ★ star icon in the top right-hand corner of the Storm thumbnail.

2. You can Show:

  • Open Storms

  • Closed Storms

⚠️ Any Closed Storm you enter will be view-only. To edit the contents of a Closed Storm it must first be re-opened, which can be done through the Storm menu (three dots located next to the Storm name).

Access the Storm Menu by clicking the three dots next to the Storm name. 

What can you do from the Storm menu?

  • Share the Storm

  • Add the Storm to a Folder (Enterprise and Business users only)

  • Move the Storm to your Personal Storms

  • Duplicate the Storm

  • Close the Storm

  • Leave the Storm

My Tasks Panel

The newest addition to the Dashboard is the My Tasks and Activity panels. 

When the My Tasks panel is open in the Dashboard, you will see all of your individual tasks across All Storms that you are a participant in. The progress bar at the top will show you how many tasks you have completed to-date. You can toggle between All, Incomplete, and Completed tasks by clicking one of the three tabs.

Tasks
that are approaching their due date will always appear at the top of the list, with the first item in the list being the task with the next approaching deadline. 

Tasks with a deadline approaching in 5–3 days will show the date in orange

To complete a task, click the empty circle to the left of the task name and a green ✅checkmark will appear indicating that task is complete.

Activity Panel

When the Activity panel is open in the Dashboard, you will see a summary of all of the most recent activity across all of the Storms that you are a participant in. 

Activity will be grouped by Storm. 

Unseen activity will have a red notification dot beside it. You can click the Open Storm button beside the Storm name to enter that specific Storm.

How to monitor and review activity in a Storm


What is in the Storm Activity Feed?

  • Newly added sticky notes (ideas)

  • Comments

  • Legend color changes

  • Section moves

⚠️ You can filter which of these notifications you would like to see in your activity by clicking the ⚙︎ gear icon.

You can see the details of each activity notification by clicking +Show details. Each '|' indicates a separate idea. To hide the details again click –Hide details.

Activity badges in the All Storms view

While in the All Storms view, you can see what Storms have New Activity by the red badge in the top left-hand corner of the Storm thumbnail. 

You can dismiss this badge by entering the Storm, or by clicking the Storm Menu (three dots next to the Storm name) and selecting Clear Activity.

What's New

You can access the What's New dialog by clicking the icon located in the top right-hand corner of your Dashboard.

Here you can find new feature announcements, functionality improvements, bug fixes, and more.
